Manager
Responsible
for the optimum operation and maximum availability of the
network and user systems, achieved through a program of
forward planning, active monitoring and preventative maintenance.
Managed the Support Team and a Project Manager. Recruited
and trained additional Support Staff. Recommended, planned
and implemented network wide projects, aimed at increasing
user productivity and delivering the full benefit of current
technology to the business. Formulated and implemented operational
policies for the support and network operator functions.
Responsible for 3rd
line cc:Mail Support.
Achievements
- As part of a project team, planned and
implemented the Netware 3.12 to Netware 4.11 upgrade.
The new operating system paved the way for the implementation
of a more advanced email system and cut the time it took
to set up users by up to 80%
- Planned and implemented a cc:Mail migration
from a DB6 to DB8 post office environment. The 24 X 7
feature in DB8 allowed for better administration.
- Involved in the commissioning, maintenance
and support of several NT4 application servers and NT
workstations as part of an Intranet application development
initiative.
- Supervised the implementation of a cc:Mail
8 to Exchange 5.5 migration project. It was a success.
- In consultation with the Head of IT,
supervised a project to migrate the network infrastructure
from 4mbps Token ring to a combination of Fast Ethernet
and Gigabit Ethernet. Increased the speed of the network
by 1000% and reduced the network infrastructure administration
workload by 20%
- Co-led a project team to plan and implement
the Year 2000 compliance program. It was finished ahead
of schedule and under budget.
- Planned and Implemented a Window95 upgrade
project across the whole site. Its’ completion paved the
way for more advanced software to be implemented in the
company.
- Instigated, planned and implemented a
remote control solution for the support team. On completion,
they were able to deal with most calls with out leaving
their desk, the first time fix rate improved significantly
- Supervised the project to migrate the
Cubix remote access infrastructure to a design implementing
Shiva, Citrix Metaframe and Secure Dynamics solutions.
The new system supported windows applications and provided
100% more bandwidth.
- Planned and implemented a project to
de-commission all AS\400 terminals and configure user
desktops for remote access via IP to several AS\400s.
Project was completed ahead of schedule and access performance
was improved.
1995
– 1997 Support Team Supervisor
Responsible
for ensuring the user community received the best possible
service from the company’s IT infrastructure through a system
of active call monitoring, call escalations and appropriate
3rd line support cover for the support team.
Supervised and motivated a team of first and second line
Support Analysts, carried out performance reviews and provided
training as required. Provided
3rd line support for cc:Mail issues.
Achievements
- As acting Network manager for 6months,
measured up to the demands of the role and maintained
the high level of service the user community was used
to.
- Implemented a pilot project to kick start
the company’s multimedia strategy. The project gave me
an opportunity to develop my research and project implementation
skills.
- Was a major player in a project to upgrade
the cabling infrastructure from IBM type 1 & UTP Cat
3-4 to UTP Cat 5 structured cabling with Fibre interconnectivity
between the 7 logical sites. Relocating network-attached
devices was simplified and cabling related issues reduced.
1993
– 1995 Support Analyst
Responsible
for providing first and second line support to the entire
company’s workforce, as part of a team of Analysts. Carried
out network operators’ tasks, which included setting up
and maintaining user accounts, print queues, print servers,
directory rights and other aspects of the users network
environment on Novell 3.11 servers & NT 4. Found, vetted
and worked with 3rd party support companies to
ensure adequate 3rd line support for our mission
critical systems.
Achievements

Researched,
recommended, installed, configured and maintained new hardware
and software solutions such as high performance network
cards and enhanced memory management software which delivered
improved efficiency to the business.

Conducted
training for groups of ten, as part of a project to roll
out a new email and office organizer system. The training
received very good feedback and the uptake of the system
was very positive.

Took
the initiative to write a program in Clipper 87 to maintain
a database of users network environment information. This
reduced administrative overhead of my role by 20%

– 1993 Hardware Support Advisor
Responsible
for first line software support including the operating
systems and programs installed across the whole site. Complete
responsibility for the configuration, installation and relocation
of all user hardware (e.g. desktop PCs, printers, modems,
scanners, terminals etc). Maintaining full software and
hardware inventory information.
Achievements
- Rapid development of IT skills in a high
demand environment, supporting various types of systems.
Went from hardly any IT experience to confidently supporting
over 70 users with a few months.
- Maintained, extended and reconfigured
the cable infrastructure from the desktop to the servers
on a 4mps Token Ring network with UTP & IBM type 1
cabling and also from terminals to an IBM System 36.
